Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

This is a dual diagnosis AA group that meets in Deans' Hall on every Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. Following the AA Twelve Step program mutual support and encouragement are provided.

Acolyte

The Acolyte Ministry is one of the oldest in the Church.  It is open to  young people age 10 and older. An acolyte performs a variety of assignments, including lighting candles, leading processions by carrying a cross or torch, and assisting at the altar during the Eucharist. Training is conducted yearly, but can be scheduled at any time by contacting the Cathedral.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is a ministry which prepares the worship space for liturgy.  Its primary duty is to set out vessels and linens for the Eucharist on Sundays and at other services, and to clean and store them after the service.  There are also occasional maintenance projects, as well as the opportunity to get involved in preparations for different liturgical seasons. Archives Committee

Volunteers, who meet monthly to process, preserve and protect the history of Christ Church Cathedral. Items preserved and processed include correspondence, pamphlets, service bulletins, financial records and various secondary works. Also catalogs the Cathedral's large photographic collection of both black and white and color photographs. All items are computer cataloged for easy access.

Bell Ringers

Individuals who ring the cathedral's tower bells before and after the principal service on Sunday morning and at other times as requested. The change is very simple and musical talent is not needed. The ability to pull down levers in sequence is however helpful.

Cathedral Life

Hospitality is the name of the game for this committee. Otherwise known as the host with the most, these volunteers cook, decorate, serve and clean up for the various receptions, lunches, dinners, coffee hours, teas, picnics that are hosted by the Cathedral each year. With the wide variety of tasks that need to be done to entertain in "style to which the cathedral has become accustomed" there something for everybody to do.

Cathedral Supper Clubs

A purely social gathering of from 8 to 12 people (couples or singles) who gather once every four to six weeks in each others' homes to share a simple supper and get to know each other in a setting other than the Cathedral. The idea behind this group is not to impress people with cooking skills, but rather to build friendships with fellow cathedral members. New groups are always forming, and members are always welcome to form a new "club" or join an existing one.

Cinephile Society

On the second Friday of the month, film aficionados meet at 7:00 p.m. at a movie theatre or at Christ Church Cathedral to view one or more films  together.  Afterwards, the group adjourns to a nearby restaurant to eat, have a glass of wine, and discuss the films.

Aftercare Program

The Aftercare Program administered by The Home of The Innocents in Louisville provides services to men and women (and their dependents when necessary) ages 18 to 24, in need of assistance with housing, employment, community resources and independent living skill. All participants must attend the Cornerstone support group. Meeting weekly, the Cornerstone support group experience provides an opportunity for program participants to build a support network among their peers while exploring common issues such as diversity, sexuality, life skills, parenting, relationships, etc. The group process allows participants to share experiences, explore their own view about topics, and education one another based on those experiences. Group leaders guide the discussions and help the group stay on target.

Education for Ministry (EFM)

The School of Theology of the University of the South offers EFM to participants who commit one year at a time toward completion of a four-year program.  The study of the Bible, church history, and twentieth century theology are combined with theological reflection to develop confidence in and knowledge of Christ’s call to ministry. EFM meets Monday nights from mid-September to early June, from  6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The Facilities Committee exercises responsibility for the stewardship of the Cathedral’s historic structures by monitoring building conditions to identify needed  repairs or rehabilitation; making budget recommendations to the Chapter; seeking grants for specific projects; and through long-range master planning. 

Finance Committee

This is a committee of volunteers who work with the Treasurer and the Director of Operations to oversee the financial operations of the Cathedral. Cathedral financial records and investments are reviewed monthly to insure the Cathedral remains on a sound financial footing.

Flower Guild

The beauty of God’s creation is a wonder to behold, and the beauty of   flowers reflects the glory of God.  The Flower Guild offers a way to express that beauty each Sunday with memorials and thanksgivings.  Training is provided to anyone who is interested.  There is always something to do at all levels of creativity. 

Friends of Music at Christ Church (MACC)

Friends of Music at Christ Church Cathedral is an organization that plans to expand the music program at the Cathedral.  The group hopes to offer a boys and girls choir composed of youth diocese-wide, and conduct music programs that include choirs from all over the diocese. Garden Committee

A "committee" in loose form; individuals who work in the Cathedral's gardens get their hands dirty planting, pruning, weeding, etc., making them look their best according to the season. Volunteers are always needed.

Gay Men’s Supper Club

The Gay Men’s Supper Club is a social supper club open all gay men in the Diocese.  The group meets once a month for dinner at someone’s home or at a local restaurant.   

Gospel Call

Gospel Call is an extension of our Covenant relationship with the Cathedral of the Assumption. The two cathedral congregations work with Fourth    Avenue United Methodist Church to do joint liturgy [Blessing of the Animals, an Epiphany celebration, a pulpit exchange] and to join forces for an  outreach project. 

Help Ministries, Inc.

Operated by a non-Cathedral volunteer Board of Directors and located in the Lower Level of the Diocesan House, this ministry provides Community Services to individuals who live within the 40202 & 40203 zip code areas. Open from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Monday - Friday, assistance is provided in the areas of rent and utility assistance, TARC tickets, obtainment of identification cards, and Rx assistance. Through a one-on-one counseling process, volunteer counselors provide counseling and assistance as available to help the individual through the particular crisis they are having at the moment.

InterFaith Paths to Peace

With administrative offices on the third floor of the Diocesan House, this organization speaks to the various peace and justice in the community and the world. Speakers, walks, vigils, etc., are all used to educate individuals and raise awareness of such issues as peace, the death penalty, religious interfaith dialogue, etc.

Ladies Lunch Bunch

Women of the Cathedral gather at a different local restaurant on the 3rd Thursday of each month for fun and fellowship. The focus of this group is the fun of sharing a meal together and talking and getting to know one another

Lay Eucharistic Minister

As part of the pastoral care ministry team, Lay Eucharistic Ministers receive special training to take communion from the Sunday Eucharist to parish members who are homebound, hospitalized, or in nursing homes.  It is a truly rewarding ministry to share the congregation's prayers and concern.   

Lay Liturgical Ministry

Lectors, intercessors, chalice bearers, and ushers help the priest present God’s love to the people through the Word and the Sacrament.  During the liturgy, lectors read the Scriptures in a manner that allows the congregation to hear God speaking; intercessors lead the people in petitions for others; and the chalice bearers present the “cup of salvation.”  Ushers help the congregants prepare to worship, and they facilitate the presenting of our monetary offerings. 

Men’s Lunch Group

The Men's Lunch Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at various restaurants (mostly downtown) at 1:00 PM. There is no fixed agenda--just good fellowship.  All men are invited to join the group and meet fellow parishioners. 

Music Ministry

There are many opportunities for anyone interested in the Music Ministry. The Cathedral Choir is a mixed choir of adults and youth who sing at the 10:00 AM Sunday Eucharist and special seasonal services.  The Choir  rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:15 - 8:45 PM, and on Sundays at  9:15 AM. 

Hand bells are used in various Sunday services throughout the year.  The Cathedral Ringers currently meet on an as-needed basis before or after the Sunday liturgy.

Assistance is needed in organizing and maintaining the music library on a seasonal and on-going basis.  If you enjoy organizing and have an hour or two on an occasional basis to assist, this is the job for you.  

Another meaningful and unique way to participate in the Music Ministry is to  purchase an anthem in honor or memory of someone.  To do so, please speak to the Director of Music to assist in the choosing of such an anthem.  The name of the person honored or memorialized can be printed on the anthem and will be noted in the bulletin, should the donor request.

Nursery Volunteer

The Christ Church Cathedral nursery is operated by a gifted child care giver  who engages the children in many ways, including creative art and  activities. Volunteers from Christ Church complete the nursery staffing each Sunday morning. Volunteers are always needed.  There is  no ministry in Christ Church more important than this.  Young families and children are the future of CCC.

Paint Up, Fix Up, Clean Up

Each month a group of volunteers meets to perform tasks related to the upkeep of the Cathedral properties – painting, cleaning, window washing, etc.  Volunteers with time and energy are needed!

Pastoral Care

This ministry team provides nurture, support and sense of fellowship within the cathedral community. Both joys and sorrows are acknowledged and responded to in what ever way seems most appropriate for the specific situation. This may include hospital or home visitation, arranging for necessary transportation to the doctor, grocery, etc., sending cards or notes, making telephone calls, etc. Whatever it may take to make the individual and their family supported as a part of the family of Christ Church Cathedral is the task of this team.

Planned Giving

The goal of the Planned Giving Committee is to encourage Cathedral friends and members to make future provisions for the Cathedral in  addition to  regular pledge contributions, whether by will or some other vehicle.  There are plans to build the endowment fund in order to provide Christ  Church  Cathedral with the financial strength to support both present and future ministries of the Cathedral.  New committee  members and fresh ideas are always welcome. 

Seamen's Church Institute

Housed on the third floor of the Diocesan House, this national organization provides support and service to the men and women who work onboard the various barges and ships which ply the Ohio River. The Cathedral along with other churches in the area provides support by filling and packing boxes to be distributed at the Christmas and Easter seasons. Cookies are baked, scarves are kitted and other small items purchased to help make these seasons special for these individuals.

Stewardship Committee

Realizing that stewardship involves more than budgets, bills and balance sheets, this ministry team working with the Finance Committee oversees and provides a coordinated response to the generosity and abundance lavished upon us by God. Both money and time are sacramental for they are outward signs by which our many blessings and spiritual grace is acknowledged and expressed. The group meets year round. They are always looking for individuals who feel that participation in this ministry is a way in which they can give back and help others to give back what God has given them.

Tennis Group

A Tennis Group has been formed and currently meets every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Louisville Tennis Center.
