Upcoming Events Adult Forum: Planning Last Things
“As for mortals, their days are like
grass; Throughout, the Bible calls our attention back to our mortality and an awareness of what we are making of the short time of our lives. This is part of the spiritual journey. Good Christian stewardship requires reflection from time to time on final things. These last session of the Spring Adult Forum will deal with some of the practical realities of providing for our temporal goods and affairs. This Sunday - May 4- Ben Mueller from Hosparus of Louisville will tell about the services and the various levels of care available through hospice ministries. Today is Outreach Sunday: Today, the first Sunday of the month, we collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items for the food pantries at Help Ministries and Calvary Episcopal Church. The loose offering today will go to the Dean’s Discretionary Fund to assist those in need both inside and outside of our Cathedral community.Checks may be made out to Christ Church Cathedral and marked for the “Dean’s Discretionary Fund. In April the Dean sent $250 from his Discretionary account to assist Episcopal Relief and Development in providing emergency assistance to communities in Namibia affected by devastating floods. At least 42 people are confirmed dead and thousands have been displaced by the floods. For more on the crisis in Namibia see the story on the ERD website http://www.er-d.org/. A Change in Ticket Plans For the Presiding Bishop’s Visit: As a change to the information previously published in the “Parish Notes”, the ticketing process for the visit of Katherine Jefferts Shori’s visit to the Diocese, May 16—18, has been simplified. Tickets will not be needed for worship here at the Cathedral on Sunday, May 18. However, SEATING WILL BE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SEATED BASIS. There will be a Coffee Time with the Presiding Bishop for Cathedral Members beginning at 9:00 a.m. in Deans’ Hall. The Cathedral doors will be open for seating at 9:30 a.m. This will provide plenty of time for parishioners attending the Coffee to get a good seat. Tickets will not be needed for the planned Confirmation event to be held at All Saint’s Conference Center in Leitchfield on Saturday, May 17. An additional opportunity to see and hear Bishop Jeffers-Schori will be on Friday evening, May 16 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Tickets will be required for this event. A sign up sheet has been placed on the bulletin board outside the Cathedral Offices. Flowers Donors Needed: May is almost here and there are still numerous opportunities for you to donate flowers and candles throughout the remainder of this year. Openings are posted on calendars outside the Cathedral Offices. Flower Donation sheets are in the Narthex and in the credenza in the Link Building. There will be no flowers in the Cathedral on Sunday if they are not donated. Tongues of Fire!
